Wiltshire Horn

The Wiltshire Horn is an old established breed of British origin. Both sexes are white, with occasional black spots in the undercoat. They are a shedding breed, sometimes taking several months to lose their coat. Both rams and ewes are horned. A small flock of Wiltshires was exported to the Piel Farm in Canada in the 1970's, where they were used to create the modern Katahdin breed. There are few flocks of Wiltshire Horn in the United States. The breed is listed as a "rare breed" by the American Minor Breeds Conservancy. Wiltshires are slow maturing, but their meat is very desirable, with little fat.
